Third Wave Molecular Diagnostics is developing clinical molecular diagnostics based on their Invader assay (SNP detection assay, based on the DNA repair enzyme Cleavase). The assay is based on a fluorometric readout and in its current form can be performed in duplex. The main advantages of this assay is that it doesn't involve PCR and is fairly sensitive.

History:

Third Wave Molecular Diagnostics was founded in 1993 as Third Wave Technologies . They changed their name in 2003 to reflect their new focus on clinical molecular diagnostics. They were acquired by Hologic in 2008.
