Perkin-Elmer was founded in 1937. In 1999 they sold their analytical instruments division (and their name) to EG&G (which became PerkinElmer). The original Perkin-Elmer became the PE Corporation which was composed of Celera and PE Biosystems (which became Applied Biosystems).
