Incyte, which started as a pure genomics/microarray company, is now positioning itself as a small molecule drug discovery business. They sold off their microarray unit (see below) and while their genomics unit (databases and libraries) is still around, it's no longer the main focus of the company. In 2004 they closed down the Palo Alto facilities, effectively ending their genomics business. They are now a "pure" pharmaceutical company.
- History:
Incyte sold off their microarray business to Quark Biotech in 6/2002 and dropped "Genomics" from their name in 12/2002 - now everything's all better. Early 2004 update: what was the "original" Incyte doesn't really exist anymore. Their recent pharmaceutical focus has led them to shutter their original Palo Alto facilities. In early 2005 they sold their subsidiary Proteome (which they acquired in 2000) to Biobase. |
