ActivX Biosciences

ActivX is a proteomics company which uses their proprietary chemical probes to identify biologically active proteins, setting is apart from other proteomics companies which rely only on protein identity. The chemical probes, consisting of a reactive group, linker and tag, are created either by rational design or using a combinatorial chemistry approach. The main feature of these probes is that they bind to a common structural element of a protein family which correlates with the protein’s activity (avoiding inactive proteins or proteins bound to an inhibitor). ActivX plans on generating revenue in two ways. The first (shorter term) is to form research collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The second (longer term) is to establish an internal drug discovery and development program based on their activity-based proteomics.

History:

ActivX Biosciences has been acquired by Kyorin Pharmaceutical where it now acts as a subsidiary.
